What is your core competence?
I am passionate about neuro critical care and acute stroke unit. I am running 18-bedded neuro critical care ICU and stroke unit at the hospital. Patient coming with a stroke within 4-5 hours of the onset of symptoms receive injection RTPA, which has ability to open blood clot. I have vast experience in the thrombolytic therapy and neuro critical care.

Can you share with us one of your success stories? What goes behind the efforts?
It is not about success with one single patient. It is about sustained dedicated efforts day after day throughout the year. As soon as a patient arrives in casualty, he/she is seen immediately by neurology team and best treatment is given on an urgent basis. The patient is then shifted to neuro ICU and monitored constantly. I am focused on providing the most advanced neurological care to our patients. I am fortunate to lead a team of professionals who share my vision. My hospital is also kind enough to provide me the best infrastructure and the latest equipment required.

Would you like to share some vital fact about neurological disease?
Over a period of time, our population is aging. The average life span of a human being has increased from 60 years to 80 years due to the advancement in medical science. When a person gets older, there are increased chances for him to be prone to neurological diseases like stroke, dementia and Parkinson diseases as well. It is very important that we preserve our body and have healthy aging. We should take care of eating habits and lifestyle and avoid smoking, drinking and fast food, which can adversely affect health. It is important to eat right and have a healthy lifestyle to avoid neurological diseases.

What is your philosophy as a Neurologist? How does Sri Balaji Hospital gels with your philosophy?
I believe that work ethics should be the priority which makes everything perfect. Neurologists are very few in India, and even fewer in rural areas. Neurological diseases are quite complex. So, we should approach neurological patient with compassion and understanding and provide the best possible care. We would see rapid advancement in diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases in coming years.

How can one achieve excellence in this field?
Perseverance, patience, dedication and being true to the profession. In other words we can simplify it by saying that excellence will depend on three Ps – Practice, Precision and Passion. Path to excellence in this profession and for that matter in any profession cannot be attained without the above mentioned attributes.
