Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India:
Outstanding contribution in promoting Breastfeeding

The BPNI started functioning in full strength as a volunteer force of zonal coordinators who were trained together and sat together to set up BPNI. By promoting best-in-breastfeeding practices across India, the BPNI has now got linked to a new global organisation, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA).  In 1992, the first victory came when a battle in a bigger war was won as the Infant Milk Substitutes Feeding Bottles, and Infant Foods (Regulation of Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 1992 (IMS Act) was enacted. Over the years BPNI started playing an increasing role in policy analysis and development as well as monitoring the IMS Act and strengthening its position with the government.
